The plastic mace insignia peeled off from all the pepper guns (8) I bought before even opening the gun packages.

4.0 out of 5 stars High Quality for price, November 19, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
I’m shopping primarily for dog protection. This is a high quality delivery system and worth the price.
Pros: – It is all metal. This thing seems built to last
- The battery powers a bright light that might thwart an encounter without need to discharge
- The gun design seems like the most one-hand operable delivery system on the market. With this product you could have it in your coat pocket and with one hand easily secure your grip while in pocket, draw, un-safety, and shoot. And do it quite quickly. It is much more ergonomic than the tradition aerosol can design, and therefore a better option in a panic situation where a fumble can have serious consequences
- The more distance the better and this one can go far
- I like that it uses 10% and not the maximum allowable of 15/17% so I would hopefully not injure a dog if I had to use it
- One of the best features that seems unique is the practice water canister. It is very important to try these things out ahead of time but it sucks if you have to actually spray pepper spray to do it. This gets around that.
Cons: – It does resemble a gun. I think it is better to conceal it as it might be too provocative to brandish. Take it out right before you need to use it (and hopefully never).
- It has a battery so that is something that has to be maintained.
- You will see other reviews that mention accidental discharges. It WILL happen if you are not careful. I notice, especially if not loading the cartridge/can perfectly vertical, it might not seat all the way and when you shut the chamber, the can will impinge on the rear of the breach, which forces the can forward enough to cause a discharge. Luckily this only happened with water once! To be safe, you must hold the chamber tube perfectly vertical when loading the can. Let it gently drop in. Don’t close yet! Now with chamber still hanging down vertically slowly spin and very gently push the can with your finger a full turn or two to see if it seats all of a sudden a millimeter or two lower. I realized when the chamber tube is loaded diagonally or horizontally, the can may not seat all the way. If it looks like the can will impinge on the back of the breach, STOP, re-open the breach and check again (or reload it) as it might not be seated properly.
This would be a 5-star product, but I will ding 1 for the accidental discharge issue. They should at least address it in product documentation, if not create a better fit. But once you know about it, it is 100% avoidable and this may be the best pepper spray delivery system on the market.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great feel, but the canisters are a question mark?, November 9, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
The item arrived and it feels great holding it. The all metal construction is seldom seen. Also, the LED light is not blindingly bright (I’ll admit it) but it gets the job done.
My problem is the canisters. The water canister fizzled immediately and water dribbled out 2 inches from the gun. Not good. I’d rather not test the pepper spray canister and potentially expose myself to pepper spray.
Long story short. The gun is great. The delivery devices (the pressurized canisters) are the weak link.
Update:: Contacted the seller, no response for getting a replacement water canister. Poor customer service.
All in all, the impressiveness of the gun has passed and now I’m left with questionable canisters should I need to use them. What’s the point of a device that may or may not work in an emergency???

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing delivery, AMAZING PRODUCT!!, October 22, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
Wow, words cannot descbribe the amazement that has ensued since the Mace Gun has arrived. It’s sturdy. made of all metal. Despite other reviews, this gun doesn’t spray Mace everywhere when loading. To prevent that, ease it into the barrel, and snap closed. The water cartridge comes preloaded, and the OC catridge separate. I have fired off several rounds with the Water Cartridge, and it shoots pretty far. I have the confidence that this would stop an attacker of any kind. It is about the size of a small handgun, but is very light. So when your holding it, it feels like your holding a gun. I love it because I can have the peace-of-mind that when I’m alone, I can be protected. It was VERY IMPRESSIVE, I’am VERY satisfied, MACE had a great idea. And this gun is cheaper compared to the REAL Mace site. But the gun is an authentic device. It is JUST AWESOME!! Order yours TODAY!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars This Product shot pepper spray all over my carpet, October 15, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
I was excited about this product! I set the safety to safe and put the cartridge into the gun. I was in my living room. As soon as I closed the chamber, it shot the entire cartridge all over my carpet. I was fortunate that there were not any children or pets there. It was a huge mess and it was near impossible to clean. We had to hire a professional to come out and get the stain out of the carpet. I ordered a new set of 2 cartridges and a month later I tried it again. This time I took it outside, set the gun to safety and put the cartridge in and it did the exact same thing. It looks like it is locked in at fire no matter where you put the switch. It was past my 30 days so I could not return the gun or the 2 cartridges that were wasted. I would not suggest you buy this product. If the company gives me a refund I will add it to the testimonial.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pepper Gun is Legit, October 8, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
The item is fantastic. The MACE logo on the right side of the gun fell off before the package opened. I could have smoothed the area which had a few scratches, and in the holster it would look like I was packin’ heat. Instead I crazy glued the piece on so if the police sees me, they can recognize the MACE logo and not grab their guns. Its a great product. With the other traditional cans of MACE/Pepper Spray, I always felt like it could accidentally discharge. With the Pepper Gun, I feel confident it can handle the job and will never accidentally discharge.
I may order another one! Love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems well made and functional, September 19, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
I was somehow expecting this to be plastic but it’s nearly all metal and feels solid. Very simple to use and wouldn’t cause handling confusion in a fight.
The trigger is not the cocked, spring-loaded type. It just applies steady pressure to the back of the “can” which pushes on a nozzle up front, spraying through a pinhole cap. It’s basically a pressurized squirt gun.
A water cartridge test showed potential for a 30 foot range if arced. Definitely more precise than a standard unit and safer than bear spray fog in a house. The LED light is an obvious aid for nighttime aiming.
My only design complaint (or just a flaw in my unit) is ~1mm of slack causing the cartridge to shift. This means the nozzle tip doesn’t quite seat in the front porthole until you start pulling the trigger. You can fix that with a shim.
The handle says to replace the cartridge every year, but the cartridge itself shows a 4-5 year date. If I don’t smell leaking pepper I’ll wait.
I would recommend this above standard canisters but it could be bulky for street use and the gun shape might provoke an escalated showdown. Upon drawing this you should make it clear that it’s not a firearm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best on market, September 18, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
I have carried and used this OC pistol for 2 years,It has never failed to function.
I used it to detain a shoplifter who tried to spray me with one of the key chain pepper sprays,It was no contest,His spray went about 3-4 feet and I just stepped back and nailed him,he gave up pretty quick.
Now I carry the same OC gun on my duty belt (with leather molded holster) along with my baton and cuffs, with a back up refill cartridge in a separate pouch.
Its been very helpful as a deterrent,as most people mistake it for a firearm or taser,And I let them think that if its to my advantage.
Overall a great product worth the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars mace gun, September 9, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
Just received my mace gun. So far I’m very disappointed. It doesn’t work at all. Plus the gun is rusted inside the barrel, makes me wonder how long someone had this gun before they decided to sell it. The batteries are a real pain to get in the gun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent idea, good product, August 15, 2011
This review is from: Mace Pepper Gun (Sports)
I LOVE the idea of a “non-lethal” option to help take down an unwanted intruder into your private space. This is a good product (Ive bought 2) that have some room for improvement. PROS: I love the “real handgun” look and funtion,it even has a small tactical LED light that comes on when the trigger is pressed. The 15-20 ft. distance is amazingley accurate. CONS: cheap construction,(china I suspect) and the tactical light is just barley enough to be effective. Overall, its the ONLY one like it, until a better model comes along, its probably the best mace gun out there.
