4.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price, November 18, 2011
This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System – LW2902 (Camera)
Ok, I got this item last month for my farm. I have one camera in my barn to view my animals and another monitoring the road that leads to it. The barn is about 400-500ft from my house and the signal was ok, my indoor camera would drop in and out when the barn door was closed. I purchase a cheap 2.4ghz antenna from amazon 10 dBi 2.4GHz WIFI Antenna for the unit and my signal cleared right up.
I like the 2 way audio feature here, we keep the unit in the kitchen so when I am in the barn working my family can easily communicate with me. We also breed goats, so when spring comes it will make our job of checking on the kids much easier. The night vision is adequate (aprox. 30ft. range )and the daylight camera is very clear. I would recommend placing a motion light near your outside cameras for extra visibility.
Only things I would like to change are the ability to choose motion recording on just one camera of the 2, I get a ton of nighttime recordings when my goats are in the barn. so when I go through the security footage I need to scroll through tons of video and giving us the ability to place custom photos as a screensaver, the stock ones on there are lame.
Just to finish regarding the review on the “wireless” function review- did you expect a wifi battery powered security camera? that’s a stretch dude (and for $300.00?)

2.0 out of 5 stars No Signal, October 12, 2011
This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System – LW2902 (Camera)
Tried several locations for the monitor ALL within the 450 ft outdoor range limit and recived NO SIGNAL. The Monitor finally work about 100 feet away on the same side of the building with VERY limited obstruction (it had to be near a window). We are not able to set up the monitor in our office about 300 feet away which is what we need to do.
The video picture is not the quality I expected and you can NOT make out a face or license plate at 60 feet away, the intercom worked fine
I installed one of the cameras in front of our building on the wall under the soffit 15 feet off the ground.
I have yet to install the second camera we are assessing and testing locations
I had to run 120 volt power in the attic to plug in camera. (no Suprise)

3.0 out of 5 stars Don’t be misled, October 8, 2011
This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System – LW2902 (Camera)
Do not be misled by the term “wireless”. It says wireless. Even the cover on the box shows the cameras with no wires leading from them. In ordering this product we thought wireless meant the cameras operated without having to drill holes in your walls or string wires around the house and connect into an outside plugin where someone could simply unplug the camera. What is wireless is the transmission of the camera to the monitor.
We have kept the system but have to aim them through windows to avoid drilling holes through the exterior of the house. It is an inconvenient and crude way of “installing”. We debated for a couple of weeks about sending the system back and still consider the possiblity. In the meantime we have a partial view of what is going on outside. The camera doesn’t pick up a person’s face unless light is shining on them. At night the porchlight has to be on in order to pick up the outline which turns mostly into shadows. Even in the daytime, If someone is out there we know it. But not necessarily who it is or what they look like.
I write this so you will have a better idea of what you are buying from the get go. We found out after purchasing this relatively expensive unit. Now think, perhaps, we could have done as much with a lesser expensive system.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lorex surveillance cameras, October 3, 2011
This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System – LW2902 (Camera)
The cameras were easy to set up and pair to the receiver and monitor and work great with live monitoring. What does NOT work is the recorded monitoring. The set up for the recorded (triggered upon movement)setting was easy to configure. What does not work is the video sensitivity. I can be within 10 feet of the video monitor (I have 3) and NONE will light up as “seeing” something within its monitoring area. This holds true for both day and night monitoring. The trigger never happens so all movement of human figures (or otherwise) goes undetected and unrecorded. Affectively the video cameras are poorly designed insofar as sensitivity. Consequently this shows up in the low cost of the units. So…..be forwarned, if you are going to be sitting somewhere monitoring what is occuring OR recording the entire time during live broadcast, this this is the unit for you. If you are going to be reliant on its ability to protect or safeguard a residence during day or night hours, move on and don’t purchase this item. Also to note, customer service is non-existant. I voiced my concerns and dismay with the recorded video aspects of the unit numerous times. I received NO response. They know.

3.0 out of 5 stars video quality is poor and colorless, September 22, 2011
This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System – LW2902 (Camera)
Pros:
Easy set up. Really easy.
Cameras have audio (which I don’t use), motion sensitivity, and fairly wide field of view.
Cons:
Video quality is nothing–nothing–like that represented in the product picture shown here. Color is practically nonexistent, the camera can’t deal with contrasts in light (shade and sunlight in the same field, or a floodlight illuminating a portion of the field at night).
The operating system has some serious shortcomings: the “zoom” feature is not an increased resolution of a field, just a cropping of the field. The framerate is very slow (and if you go to the higher pixel image, the framerate drops in half).
The motion detection is delayed. This is a serious drawback that contrasts with DVR systems. Here, the hard drive takes a few moments to respond to motion signals from the camera, so you can frequently get recordings with nothing visible.
I think the limitations are mostly due to weak computing power in the monitor. It’s a real trade-off.
Bottom line:
For some situations this is a useful and economic system, but it’s worth looking into slightly more pricey DVR systems (which will likely require a monitor purchase). I would not buy this again, but I don’t have serious regrets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Mind, September 20, 2011
This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System – LW2902 (Camera)
Great features, Night Vision Well beyond what is stated. Motion detection works almost too well. Monitor viewing, recording and menu options are very user freindly. For keeping an eye on home and property. This unit provides a great piece of mind. All in all money well spent.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works but for me the signal is to short distance., September 19, 2011
This review is from: Lorex LIVE SD9 Wireless Digital Security System – LW2902 (Camera)
My Mom is very content however I feel like I should be able to have one camera in the front of the house and the other in the rear without any issues for the price. As is you need to buy TWO of these in order to really get the whole house covered and both LCD Screens will have to be close to the camera’s. Oh and another gripe is you gonna plug them in!!! That makes for an entirely new set of installation issues when putting them outside the house
I still think it’s a cool system and worth it if it makes my Mom feel better about the tenant stealing from us in the back yard, etc etc. It’s motion recording is very good!
